SAN ANGELO, TX - The Department of Public Safety identified the man involved in the officer involved shooting yesterday afternoon as 41-year-old George Delacruz of San Angelo.
Sgt. Justin Baker said Texas Rangers are continuing to investigate the shooting that took place at 302 W. Harris in the parking lot at Schlotsky's.
"As a result of the shooting, Delacruz was pronounced deceased at the scene," said Baker
Additionally, Jennifer Salas, 37, of San Angelo, was arrested on scene for unrelated charges and booked into the Tom Green County Jail.
Sgt. Baker said the investigation is ongoing, and no other information is available at this time. For our initial story, click here.
On Monday, LIVE! reported on an SAPD investigation of a robbery with a stolen vehicle in the 2200 block of Abilene Street. This house, according to the Tom Green County Appraisal District website, belongs to Javier and Jennifer Salas. We are waiting to find out the connection to the shooting and Monday's incident. According to jail records, Salas was arrested for Fail to Control-Collision w/Person or Vehicle, Fail to Display Driver License, Possession of Controlled Substance, Registration Insignia-Wrong Period, Theft of Property and VPTA x 3. This is her second arrest in Tom Green County, and her bonds total $13,860.
As for Delacruz, he was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in October 2015. He pulled a knife on Walmart employees after attempting to steal merchandise with a female suspect. In January of this year, Delacruz pleaded guilty to the charge. Assistant District Attorney Jason Ferguson had argued that, because of the severity of the offense, Delacruz deserved a prison sentence. However, Judge Ben Woodward handed down 5 years deferred adjudication probation.
