ABILENE, TX - 44-year-old Jarrod Shea Bonds of Hamlin was arrested on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 for Forgery, Exploitation of the Eldery, Theft of Motor Vehicle by Check, Identity Theft and a Parole Violation.
Bonds, who was under surveillance, was captured entering a downtown jewelry store by officers with the Abilene Police Department Fraud Unit, Crimes Against Property, and Responsive Intelligence Unit. He was located driving a stolen vehicle at the time of his arrest.
A police investigation revealed that he had previously used the identity of his 92-year-old grandfather and stolen checks to purchase a $2,000 necklace pendant and a Byzantine era coin.
When he was arrested, Bonds was in possession of a $12,000 forged check. He is currently in the Taylor County Jail and being held in lieu of bonds totaling $27,500 dollars. The total loss caused by Shea to merchants and citizens is estimated to be over $15,000.
