SAPD Confront Armed Suspect During Domestic Disturbance Call

Saturday night, San Angelo Police confronted and arrested a 37-year-old San Angelo man armed with a rifle following a domestic disturbance at a Southside apartment complex.

Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD, said just before midnight, officers were dispatched to the Creekside Apartments, 3018 Knickerbocker Road, for a domestic disturbance with information that the suspect was last seen wearing a mask and armed with a firearm.

"Officers arrived and attempted to locate the suspect, identified as John Gill, in one of the apartments," said Gonzalez. "While attempting to call out to Gill through the apartment’s open door, officers observed a masked man carrying a rifle, approaching their location from a nearby trail."

Gill initially ignored commands to drop his rifle, but eventually complied. He was taken into custody without incident.

"In addition to the rifle, Gill had two loaded magazines and a box of ammunition in his pockets," added Gonzalez.

During the field investigation, police learned Gill pointed a loaded weapon at his spouse prior to their arrival. The woman escaped the apartment without harm.

Gill was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
