Over the weekend, 63 San Angeloans made their way to the Tom Green County Jail for a variety of offenses. Out of those arrested, 38 people were booked on new complaints, including alcohol, drugs, violence and resisting arrest.
In fact, this morning, just before 2:00 a.m., Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez, with the San Angelo Police Department, said officers responded to the 200 block of South Chadbourne St. for directive patrol/enforcement action.
“One officer heard a woman yelling from inside a vehicle,” explained Gonzalez. “The officer made contact with the woman, who appeared to be intoxicated and angry. As the officer was about to have the woman step out from her vehicle, she drove away.”
Gonzalez said the officer told the woman, identified as Cristina Rodriguez, AKA Cristina Vasquez, 29, to stop repeatedly, but she disregarded his command, drove over a curb-stop in the parking lot, and almost ran into several pedestrians who were fortunate enough to have quickly stepped out of the vehicle’s way, just in time. The officer then quickly got the vehicle’s license plate number and broadcast it over the radio.
“After running the license place and obtaining a possible address where the vehicle could be located, the officer went to the 1700 block of Greenwood in an attempt to locate the vehicle and driver,” said Gonzalez.
Vasquez was located standing just outside her vehicle
“Cristina showed several indicators to suggest she was intoxicated and denied knowledge of the incident in the parking lot,” Gonzalez said.
She added that Vasquez became increasingly agitated and belligerent toward the officer, got in his personal space and disregarded several more lawful commands, which led to the officer arresting her for Evading his Detention in the parking lot.
“As the officer attempted to place Cristina in handcuffs, she began to and continued to resist the arrest until a backup officer arrived and assisted with taking Cristina into custody,” stated Gonzalez.
In addition to Vasquez, 55-year-old Jesus Betancourt Muro celebrated his 17th arrest into the TGCJ Saturday night for engaging in violence against a family member.
Gonzalez said officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of North Magdalen just before 7 p.m. on the 12th in reference to an assault.
“While enroute, officers learned Muro physically assaulted a 77-year-old female family member,” said Gonzalez. “When they arrived, [officers] located all the parties and determined an assault occurred. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.”
Gonzalez said Muro was located at the scene and arrested.
