An Abilene Man Arrested for Shooting Motel Tenant in His Bed

Abilene Police Department detectives arrested a 34-year-old man, Esequiel Anzo, yesterday evening for a shooting that took place at an Abilene motel, said a press release Friday.

According to APD, on Monday, Feb. 22, at around 10:30 p.m., police were dispatched to a motel in the 5600 block of South 1st St. in reference to an injured subject. This individual, a tenant in one of the rooms, had been shot in the back while resting on his bed. Emergency responders transported the man to a local hospital by ambulance.

During the investigation, detectives learned someone had fired a shot from the adjacent room. The bullet went through the wall of the room and struck the victim in his back. The person in the adjacent room, later identified as Anzo, fled the scene prior to police arriving. Detectives discovered he had fired a round from a handgun into the headboard of his bed, striking the victim in his back.

Anzo is now behind bars at Taylor County Jail. The investigation in this case is ongoing.
