San Angelo Arresting Agencies Kept Busy During Dumb Crimes Weekend

This weekend, arresting agencies and officers were busy with a variety of crimes that plagued San Angelo this weekend. The Tom Green County Jail witnessed 55 arrests, and of those, domestic violence, possession of marijuana, DWI, public intoxication and resisting arrest top the number of offenses. Not to mention, a few of those arrests made their own headlines this weekend.

Tom Green County Jail housed the fiancé/boyfriend who interfered with San Angelo police during an investigation into a crash that occurred Friday afternoon on North Van Buren and Guadalupe Streets.

Tracy Gonzalez, public information and social media officer for SAPD, said when an officer was attempting to assess the victims at the scene, Shane A. Manitzas, 21, pulled up in his vehicle, got out of the car and headed toward the victim’s car.

“He was irate and tried to inquire on what happened,” Gonzalez said. She added that the officer asked him to step away so he could conduct his investigation. At that point, Manitzas went to the 17-year-old driver and demanded to know what happened. Another officer asked him to step back and told him to quit interfering with the investigation.

The young man was advised more than four times to quit interfering or he would go to jail. Manitzas, however, told officers, “I don’t care.”

Well, not caring got him booked into jail at 1:43 p.m. Friday afternoon. He was released shortly after on a $500 bond.

In another incident Sunday evening, a woman crashed into a utility pole in the 1700 block of S. Chadbourne St. Officer Green, who responded to the call of a major vehicle accident, found Shelley Donise Jones, 55, in her vehicle. Jones did not know she was in an accident; nor did she recall driving from one side of town to another.

At the scene, Jones underwent a sobriety test and was arrested for DWI. She was also cited for failure to control speed and having an open alcohol container. A mandatory blood draw was requested; however, Gonzalez said the results of that has to be sent off for verification.

This incident makes the third DWI for Jones, and she is being held on a $5,000 bond. Luckily, no one was injured in this incident.

In another incident on Chadbourne early Sunday morning, an officer was patrolling the parking lot at 1518 S. Chadbourne when he observed an active fight between two adult females, later identified as Krystal J. Gray, 28, and Brittnay R. Walker, 27, of San Angelo.

“The officer separated the fight and placed both females in handcuffs,” Gonzalez noted.

The most ridiculous crime of the weekend, however, goes to Ramiro Rojas for discharging a firearm in the city limits. Rojas, who has a history of arrests, three of which include sexual assault of a child, was apparently shooting his pistol in the front yard of a house on East 21st Street at 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

A neighbor reported gunshots fired and officers arrived at about 2:22 a.m. Officers located Rojas. When they saw the gun, an officer drew his weapon and ordered Rojas to stand down. The man stepped back inside his garage, but was ordered to come back out. He did as he was told, and police took him into custody. Officers found the firearm and bullet casings in the man’s garage.

“He said he had just purchased the gun and it was misfiring or jamming,” Gonzalez said about Rojas’ explanation. “He said he was just stepping outside to clear the jam.”
