Monday Stabbing Story Fabricated, Victim's Wounds Believed to be Self-Inflicted

A 36-year-old San Angelo woman, who claimed to be the victim of an assault Monday afternoon, was found to have fabricated the incident.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. yesterday, San Angelo police received a 911 emergency call in reference to an assault in the 1100 block of east 21st Street. Upon arrival, officers located a woman with injuries to her lower left leg. The woman claimed to have been assaulted with a knife by a male acquaintance.  The woman was transported to Community Hospital for non- life threatening wounds.

Shortly after the initial 911 call was placed, San Angelo Police Detectives located the male acquaintance at his workplace and confirmed he was not involved in the assault.  Further investigation showed the wounds on the woman were not consistent with her account of the incident, and police believe the wounds may have been self-inflicted.

A charge of making a false report to police may be filed at a later time.
