Manhunt in College Hills

San Angelo police are pursuing a male individual after a brief car chase down Knickerbocker Road and onto Johnson Street tonight. Several police units and a K9 unit are now searching on foot in the vicinity of Johnson and Oxford Avenue and several blocks around.

There is no official word on for whom they are searching, but our sources indicate that the suspect has outstanding warrants and fled to avoid arrest. The suspect was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The chase may have originated from a traffic stop just before 10 p.m. that is recorded on the police blotter.

Update 11:29 p.m.

Angelo State University police issued a statement concerning safety on campus. In short, they are monitoring, but the hunt is well south of campus. "UPD officers have been alerted. Police do not believe the suspect(s) are close to campus. At present the search area remains well south of ASU campus. An ASUAlert will be sent if there is any indications of a threat to the campus. The situation is being carefully monitored by UPD."

Update 11:44 p.m.

Police officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Oxford about a suspicious vehicle. When police activated their lights on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the driver put the vehicle in drive and fled. A short vehicle chase ensued until the Jeep hit a curb near Harvard and Johnson Street.

At that time, the doors of the Jeep opened and police believe two suspects fled on foot. Police said both were likely juveniles. The suspects remain at-large.
