Chicken Express Robbed at Gunpoint

Chicken Express, 2831 North Bryant Blvd., was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday evening, according to scanner reports. As an employee was leaving, and in the parking lot with the bank bag, a man pointed a gun at the employee and demanded the bank bag with the night deposit .

The 911 call came in at 10:45 p.m. declaring that the robbery was in progress. Police responded with lights and sirens. Chicken Express' published hours are 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Once the police arrived, the robber was gone. And so was the night deposit.

We have attempted to contact the owner of the franchise and left a message. We will update this story as more information is available.

If you see someone you suspect was the robber of the Chicken Express, call 911 and realize that the suspect is probably armed.

Update May 21, 2014 10:38 a.m.

Travis Montgomery, franchisee and owner of both Chicken Express locations in San Angelo, offered us an exclusive interview this morning. Montgomery said that both of his locations are armed with security alarms and video sureveillance cameras are quite extensive. "Most of the transactions at our stores are on credit or debit cards," he said. So, the robbery didn't get the majority of the evening's money earned.

The male employee who was robbed in the parking lot after running the night shift was his store manager, and someone Montgomery described as a fairly tough guy who isn't too shaken up by the incident. "I think he's more upset that this happened to him than being traumatized by the incident," Montgomery said.

Update May 21, 2014 11:03 a.m.

The San Angelo Police Department released the following information:

San Angelo Police continue to search for a man who robbed a Chicken Express employee at gunpoint late last night.

On May 20, 2014, at approximately 10:45 p.m., San Angelo Police were dispatched to the Chicken Express located at 2831 N. Bryant Boulevard for the report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, police spoke with the victim who said he was inside his car getting ready to leave the property when the suspect appeared at his car window and demanded money from him at gunpoint.  The suspect, described as being a Hispanic male, fled the scene with the restaurant’s bank deposit bag containing an undisclosed amount of money and ran towards Hirschfeld Steel.

Police quickly established a perimeter and requested assistance from the K-9 Unit.  Once on scene, a K-9 Team initiated a scent track that led police to a fence that separates the properties of Hirschfeld Steel and the Nueva Vista Apartment complex; however, the suspect was not located.

The suspect was described as being approximately 5’09” tall, approximately 160 lbs., and was wearing a dark-colored long-sleeved shirt, black beanie cap and a black bandana over his face.

If you have any information about this incident or the suspect’s identity please call Detective Kelly Lajoie at 325-657-4264.  To remain anonymous, call the SAPD’s 24 hour Tip Hotline at 1-855-TIPS-247.  You can also text your tips, text TIP SAPD followed by your message, to 888777.  You can submit Tips online at http://local.nixle.com/tip/san-angelo-police-department/

It makes me SICK, that everybody thinks oil field people are so bad! Get a life and take a good hard look at blaming people. My Grandmother always said Sweep around your own back door before you sweep around someone else's !
Calm down!!! Can't you see you are being trolled every time someone mentions the oilfield being the problem.

Without a doubt, being sarcastic! :P I'm all about the black gold!
Joe, when you composed, wrote and published this sentence: "Once there, the robber was gone." did you not feel any kind of uneasiness, like something might be wrong? Did you actually read the sentence -- ever -- at all? John Decker Editor Emeritus

Did you let me do this? I'm horrified. Emeritus is right. I think we were too busy figuring out how a chicken place was robbed 45 minutes after it was closed...

Joe, you've been demoted to a .3 writer again. Emeritus, your payment shall now include smiley faces. :)

Thank you, Ms. Schmid. Your generosity is exceeded only by your beauty. Editor Emeritus San Angelo LIVE!
