MONAHANS, TX — A multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 20 at mile marker 73 westbound was upgraded to a mass casualty incident Monday afternoon, prompting a multi-agency response from Ward County and neighboring jurisdictions.
The crash was reported at approximately 5:30 p.m. Initial reports indicated a pileup involving 15 to 20 vehicles with numerous injuries, according to posts from Ward County EMS and Reeves County Emergency Service Districts Nos. 1 and 2. As responders were en route, officials determined more vehicles were involved than first reported, leading to the mass casualty declaration due to the number of patients requiring transport.

Reeves County ESD Nos. 1 and 2 assisted with Battalion 2, Medic 41 and MPV 9-03 (AMBUS). Winkler County EMS sent two ambulances, Rankin County Hospital District EMS provided one ambulance to cover city and county 911 calls, and AeroCare 10 from Pecos transported a patient to Odessa Medical Center.
The Monahans Volunteer Fire Department and Wickett Volunteer Fire Department assisted EMS personnel on scene, and the Ward County Sheriff’s Office provided support.
