Man Killed After Being Struck by Train in Abilene

 

ABILENE, TX — A man was killed Saturday when he was struck by a train in Abilene.

Johnny Burchfield, 49, was reportedly on the tracks when he was hit by the train, according to the Abilene Police Deparment.

The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. in the 1900 block of South First Street near the Sayles Boulevard crossover.

The conductor from the Union Pacific Train called dispatch to report that the train had struck someone.

The incident remains under investigation.

This is at least the fourth incident since 2022 involving a pedestrian being killed by a train in Abilene.
