Semi-Truck Hauling Over 80 Heifers Crashes in Kimble County

KIMBLE COUNTY, TX — Fifteen heifers were confirmed dead after a semi-trailer truck hauling 89 heifers flipped on North U.S. Highway 83 near milepost 472 in Kimble County overnight, authorities said.

The crash occurred Tuesday night when a vehicle that had passed the truck attempted to re-enter the lane too soon and clipped the front of the semi, the Kimble County Sheriff’s Office reported. The truck driver swerved to avoid a collision but flipped the vehicle. The truck driver reported no injuries. Authorities have not confirmed whether the driver of the other vehicle has been located. No citations have been issued.

Deputies, Texas state troopers and Junction Volunteer Fire Department members responded to the scene. Recovery crews and state agencies were working Wednesday to remove the semi-trailer. No lane closures were in place, but motorists were advised to use caution in the area.

The sheriff’s office thanked first responders, state agencies and civilians who assisted, especially those who brought livestock trailers and equipment.
