ODESSA, TX – A 5-year-old boy died days after a head-on crash involving an intoxicated driver in Odessa, police said.

It happened around 8:40 p.m. on Dec. 22 at Yukon and Grandview.

Authorities reported that a gray Dodge Ram, driven by a 25-year-old man, was traveling southbound in the 6100 block of North Grandview when it was struck by a northbound white Chevrolet Cruze that had veered into the southbound lanes.

The Chevrolet Cruze, driven by 20-year-old Breanna Pinick, had two passengers: a 15-year-old girl, who sustained serious injuries, and a 5-year-old boy, who was airlifted to Lubbock. The boy succumbed to his injuries on Dec. 30. Both Pinick and the driver of the Dodge Ram sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Pinick was found to be intoxicated, according to police, and was arrested on multiple charges, including two counts of Intoxication Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury and one count of Intoxication Manslaughter, both felonies. Additional charges include driving without a license and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.

Police also uncovered an unrelated misdemeanor warrant for Interfering with Public Duties. Pinick was transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center after being treated at a local hospital. The investigation remains ongoing.
