DPS Trooper Critically Injured in Crash; Support Efforts Underway

NOTREES, TX – A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper remains in critical condition following a vehicle accident in Ector County.

Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez, a U.S. Army veteran and recent graduate of DPS class A-23, was working a crash scene when a vehicle struck an Ector County Sheriff’s vehicle, critically injuring him.

Trooper Vasquez was outside of his vehicle at the time of the incident. The Ector County deputy, who was inside his vehicle, sustained injuries as well.

Trooper Vasquez was airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, where he remains in critical condition. The DPS Troopers Foundation has initiated a fundraiser to assist the Vasquez family through the Help-a-Hero platform. According to the foundation, 100% of donations will go directly to the family.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association have urged the public to donate and offer prayers for Trooper Vasquez, his family, and all others affected by this.

For those wishing to contribute, donations can be made through the Help-a-Hero platform.
