Trooper Sent Flying in Scary Crash

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released a dramatic dash camera video capturing the harrowing moment when Trooper Jesse Gregory narrowly escaped serious injury during a routine traffic stop. The incident occurred on busy Interstate 40, emphasizing the inherent risks law enforcement officers face daily.

In the dash camera footage, Trooper Gregory can be seen approaching the passenger side of a vehicle pulled over near Cimarron Road. The trooper's decision to walk up to the car likely saved his life, as just 13 seconds later, a black SUV violently crashed into the pulled-over vehicle, sending Trooper Gregory flying backward. The SUV then rolled multiple times.

Trooper Preston Cox, the public information officer for OHP, expressed relief that Trooper Gregory, a fellow graduate from his class, managed to get up and walk away from the collision. "I'm just glad he was able to get up and walk away," Cox remarked.

Remarkably, all three individuals involved in the crash, including Trooper Gregory and the occupants of the two vehicles, were treated and released from the scene. The dashcam footage underscores the unpredictable nature of traffic stops and the split-second decisions that impact officers' safety.

This incident marks the second crash along I-40 in two weeks involving law enforcement pulling over a vehicle. In response, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol announced an increased presence and a crackdown on distracted driving, emphasizing the importance of respecting emergency lights and exercising caution when approaching traffic stops.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and while no arrests have been made, authorities remain vigilant in addressing potential contributing factors to such incidents on the road. The dashcam footage serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers during routine duties and the need for heightened awareness on the part of all motorists.
