JONESBORO, AK - In a courageous act amid freezing temperatures, an Arkansas police officer, Officer Troy Ellison, emerged as a hero by rescuing a child from a potentially tragic situation in a frozen pond.
The incident unfolded when emergency crews responded to a distress call around 10 a.m. last Saturday, alerting them to a child who had fallen through the ice on a pond at Gladiola Estates in Jonesboro. Body camera footage released by the Jonesboro Police Department captured Officer Troy Ellison's swift response upon arriving at the scene.
The child, desperately clinging to the edge of the ice, could be heard crying and calling for parents in the recorded body cam footage. Officer Ellison wasted no time, taking immediate action to rescue the child from the perilous situation.
"Crawling onto the ice and pulling the child to safety with the help of Lt. Shon Morris and members of the Jonesboro Fire Department," recounted officials on Facebook, emphasizing the collaborative effort that ensured the child's safe rescue.
Following the rescue, the child was promptly transported to the hospital for a thorough check-up, considering the impact of the weather on potential injuries. Fortunately, the child is expected to recover fully.
In light of this incident, police authorities took the opportunity to remind the public about the inherent dangers of playing on ice, regardless of how cold it may be. The heroic actions of Officer Troy Ellison serve as a testament to the dedication and bravery exhibited by law enforcement officers, even in the face of extreme weather conditions, to ensure the safety and well-being of their communities.
