SAN ANGELO, TX — In a startling incident early Friday morning, a white Ford F-150 crashed spectacularly in the 3400 block of Millbrook Dr. Around 1 a.m., the truck, traveling at high speed, failed to navigate a bend and careened off the road. It demolished a fire hydrant, displaced several heavy boulders, struck a pole, and eventually collided with the College Hills West Apartments' offices, flipping over upside down in the process. The crash's loud impact awoke residents, prompting them to investigate.
A passing driver witnessed the event and stopped to help, simultaneously calling 9-1-1. Police and fire services were alerted that the vehicle had a single occupant, though his condition was not immediately disclosed.
Upon our arrival at the scene, we observed police officers restraining a visibly agitated, young, and large man near the overturned truck. His associate, present at the scene, objected to our filming but was ignored as the press has a right to report in a free society.
The driver’s friend, who seemed unaware of press freedom, was seen trying to calm the driver as he was being detained by the police. During this, the friend made a comment towards our camera, which could be interpreted as hostile. The driver, while being escorted by the police, made a contentious remark comparing his treatment to racial profiling. The big man was white.
The big man was eventually handcuffed and placed in a police vehicle, screaming of pain as he was resisting vehemently. He was taken to the Tom Green County Detention Center. His booking details were not available at the time of this report.
The aftermath of the crash left a trail of destruction, including damaged carports and debris around the flipped truck. A groundskeeper was later seen assessing the damage with fire department officials.
The driver's associate mentioned plans to assist with the man's release from jail the following morning. We will not know how much bail will be until later Friday morning.
