Driver Killed After Crashing into Pickup at Rural Intersection

 

ASPERMONT, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed that one person was killed Saturday afternoon in a crash ten miles east of Aspermont.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Mar. 13 at 11:48 a.m., troopers with the Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the intersection of FM 1835 and SH 283 for the report of a major crash involving two vehicles. 

When they arrived, the troopers discovered a 2014 Ford car and a 2007 Chevrolet pickup that had crashed in the middle of the intersection.

Paramedics were called on scene and the driver of the pickup was transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene for incapacitating injuries. The troopers have reported that he is in stable condition.

The driver of the car, Tammy Yarborough, 59, of Roscoe, was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to Giles McCoy Funeral Home in Aspermont.

DPS has determined that the car was traveling South on FM 1835 while the pickup was traveling East on SH 283. The car failed to yield right of way at the intersection of SH 283 and FM 1835 and was struck by the pickup on the left rear side. 

The posted speed limit at on the highway is 75 miles per hour. The weather was clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash.
