Pedestrian Killed in Jones County Crash North of Hawley

 

JONES COUNTY, TX — A 20-year-old man from Rio Grande City died after being struck by a car while walking in a roadway north of Hawley, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Friday. 

Alexis Ivan Jimenez was hit just before 11 p.m. Thursday on the U.S. Highway 277 frontage road, about 5 miles north of Hawley, according to a DPS crash report. He was taken to Anson General Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m. Friday by Jones County Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guernsey. 

A 16-year-old girl from Hawley was driving a 2013 Cadillac southbound on the U.S. 83/277 frontage road when she struck Jimenez, who was walking in the roadway, the report states. The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. No other vehicles were involved. 

The posted speed limit in the area is 55 mph. Weather was clear, and the road was dry at the time of the crash. 

The crash remains under investigation, DPS stated.
