It's The Law: No-Nonsense Trooper Would Not Yield to Family's Pleas for Mercy

SAN ANGELO TX — Two Chevy Trucks collided on U.S. 87 at the Glass Rd. crossover at approximately noon today.

Though the visual appearance of the trucks looks harrowing, there were no major injuries. But traffic was slowed and diverted as the Texas DPS conducted a crash investigation.

As the lead DPS investigator was concluding that the tan Silverado, turning north on U.S.87, about a half dozen family members of the elder gentleman driving the tan truck surrounded the trooper and pleaded with her that it was not the man’s fault.

State troopers aren’t trained to consider crash scene pleas. Instead, they approach crash investigations knowing no crash happens without a reason. “That’s why we never call them accidents,” and old Trooper once explained to me. Nothing happens by chance and chance alone, he said.

In the end, the investigator, Trooper Evelyn Amador, disregarded the family’s pleas and determined that the tan Chevy truck pulled out in front of the northbound white Chevrolet truck. The white truck hit the tan truck.

Amador said that although the tan Chevy driver claimed to have stopped at the stop sign at the Glass Rd., he didn’t see the white Chevy and failed to yield the right-of-way.

The Tan truck driver was issued a citation, over his family’s objections. Yielding the right-of-way is, after all, the law.
