21-Year-Old Killed in Head-On Collision, Loses Control of Vehicle After Hitting Wild Hog

A 21-year-old Lubbock woman died early this morning after colliding head-on with a 2006 Sterling Truck towing a double trailer on US 82, about three miles west of Benjamin in Knox County. The woman lost control of her vehicle after hitting a wild hog in the roadway.

Public Information Officer Frederick Biddle, with the Department of Public Safety, said Samantha Elizabeth Dimeo was traveling east on US 82 at 3:32 a.m. in a 2012 Ford Fiesta, while the driver of the truck, Randy Don Price, 52, also of Lubbock, traveled west. After striking a wild hog in the roadway, Dimeo veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with Price’s vehicle. Biddle said Dimeo came to rest on the eastbound shoulder of the highway. Price ran through the fence north of US 82 and came to rest there. His vehicle and the first trailer caught fire and burned.

Biddle said Dimeo was pronounced dead at the scene, and officials transported her body to McCauley Smith Funeral Home in Munday. She did have her seatbelt on at the time of the crash. Price had no reported injuries and also wore his seatbelt.

Biddle added that road conditions at the time were clear/cloudy and dry.
