Head On Collision on Catalina Dr.

This morning in the 1700 block of Catalina Dr. San Angelo Police Department responded to a head on collision. Ed Unger, traffic investigator for the SAPD was at the scene.

According to Unger, a silver Mazda was driving northbound on Catalina Dr.  as a red Honda traveled southbound on Catalina Dr.  The silver Mazda veered to the left into the path of the Honda, colliding almost head on.

Occupants of the Mazda, a mother and child, were transported by ambulance to the hospital. The child sustained a head laceration that according to the officer did not appear to be life threatening. The names of the mother and child are unknown at this time. It is also unknown as to what caused the driver of the Mazda to swerve in to the oncoming lane.

The driver of the Honda, Sara Williams, also went to the hospital as well, by way of private vehicle sustaining what appeared to be non- life threatening injuries.

Catalina is a street full of twists and turns. “There’s really nothing to show speed, it is a 30 mile an hour speed limit, which in a head on collision would make a 60 mph impact,” Unger said.

I think the frac sand trucks are seriously overweight!! DPS needs to be out with portable scales to weigh the trucks....80,000lbs is the max gross weight for tractor-trailers in Texas!!!! I watched a road crew fix a strech of FM 2105 on or about 6-15-15 .....the road was torn up again the next day......Start weighing these trucks and the roads will thank you for it.....so will the tax payers!!!
