Pontiac Firebird vs. Cement Truck on Knickerbocker Road

A white 2000 Pontiac Firebird was involved in a crash with a cement truck on Knickerbocker Road in front of the Sonic, 3300 block, this morning just before 8 a.m. The Firebird was driven by a young man. San Angelo EMS is on the scene, but there are no injuries. The center turn lane and the eastbound lanes are blocked.

Update 8:25 a.m.

"I was driving in the middle lane, and the cement mixer, he even told me that he didn't see me, and he just turned into me," said the driver of the Firebird.

The cement mixer hit the Firebird on the driver's side door. The driver said that he, "feels alright, feel okay. A lot better that it looks like I could have."

The cement mixer truck driver helped the driver get out of the car, said the Firebird driver, who is a 19-year-old ASU student.

Update 8:35 a.m.

San Angelo police finished their investigation, and this is what they found: At around 8 a.m., the concrete truck was driving in the inside lane and the white car was driving in the center lane. The Cement truck initiated a lane change and didn't see the Firebird. After the concrete truck crashed into the Firebird, it spun it sideways and pushed it 210 feet. The driver of the concrete truck said he didn't realize that he had hit the white Firebird; he told police that he thought he had blown a tire. The cement truck driver was cited for unsafe lane change. San Angelo Policeman Ed Hunger was the investigating officer.

The wrecker is loading up the car and the lanes should be clear by 9 a.m.

Just don't be around these big trucks. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN THEY GRAZE OR HIT SOMETHING SMALLER! Get ahead of them or stay well behind, even if they're in the other lane. Drive Friendly, Share the Road.
