BURTON, TX - On Tuesday, SanAngeloLIVE.com reported that potential Christoval playoff opponent Burton had to forfeit 7 games for playing an ineligible player.
Now the district committee has shed more light on what happened.
On Wednesday, the UIL District 13-2A Division II District Executive Committee had an emergency meeting to address the eligibility of a player for the Burton Panthers.
Superintendent Dr. Enda Kennedy said “The original participation form that was submitted for the student had some inaccurate, some clerical error, on that form. So when it was submitted it had some clerical errors in residency for the particular student in question. Those have been corrected and submitted and that was the cause of the first district executive committee where they ruled that we (Burton) would have to forfeit our games.”
The committee voted 5-1 against letting Burton proceed with a waiver regarding the athletic parent residence rule to the UIL, so Burton has forfeited the seven games but could still advance in the playoffs.
If Burton and Snook both win on Friday, the Christoval Cougars will square off against the Burton Panthers in the first round of the playoffs next week.
