At approximately 9:30 a.m. this morning, San Angelo emergency responders quickly worked at cutting off the mangled driver-side door of a silver Dodge Neon. Their goal: to extract a driver involved in a crash on S. Bryant and W. Avenue L, near the Santa Fe Depot.
Officer Ed Hunger, traffic investigator for the San Angelo Police Department, said two 16-year-old teenagers in a blue pickup from Odessa heading back home were traveling northbound on Bryant and ran a red light. As a result, the teenage driver hit the Neon on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Hunger said when he got to the scene, he saw the two teenagers. Medics had bandaged their heads with gauze, but responders didn’t transport them to an area hospital.
The driver of the Neon, however, was transported to an unknown area hospital with unknown injuries after emergency responders cut the door off of the Neon and extracted the driver from the vehicle.
Hunger stated the driver of the pickup received a citation for disregarding a red light. He added that SAPD completely blocked northbound Bryant except for the left turning lane as officers worked on clearing the crash, which remains under investigation.
