Yellow Arrow Signal Controlling Reconfigured Intersection

San Angelo’s first flashing yellow arrow traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of Sherwood Way and Beauregard Avenue. The concept remains the same as a green ball signal for a left turn. That is, while the yellow arrow is flashing, drivers should yield to oncoming traffic.

The yellow arrow traffic signal, now mandated by federal regulations, is equipped with a sign that advises motorists, “Left Turn Yield on Flashing Yellow Arrow.”

The location of the Yellow Arrow:

The new signal, which replaces a signal with green arrow and green light phases, is meant to better direct traffic with the impending opening of a Walmart Neighborhood Market grocery store on Sherwood Way. Traffic flows at the intersection will be impacted by the Walmart entrances, pedestrian movements and Harrison Street’s recent change to a one-way street south of its intersection with Colorado Street.

Perhaps we should sell tickets to watch this intersection when the signal goes live. Most local drivers in San Angelo don't know, or don't care more likely, what a regular yellow light means. Should generate lots of work for police, EMS and wrecker services.
