Washington – Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11) released the following statement upon passage of H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015 and H.R. 3504, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act:
“Planned Parenthood has committed terrible acts against the sanctity of life. Not a single taxpayer dollar should go to an organization that illegally harvests the organs of innocent babies for profit. Legislation that passed today will defund Planned Parenthood while a full investigation into the criminal practices of Planned Parenthood takes place.
“The other bill that passed today ensures that any child born alive during an abortion will receive immediate medical care. In the Planned Parenthood videos, a technician described the fate of babies who are born with a heartbeat during an abortion. It is beyond heinous that any child that comes into this world alive is not immediately given medical attention, but this law will rectify that. We cannot ignore these atrocities being committed against human life.”

Now that's a bold-faced lie from Mr. Conaway. The Center for Medical Progress' use of deceptively edited videos to falsely claim clinics are "negotiating a fetal body parts deal" once again falls flat, providing no evidence that any laws were broken. Transcript of the full, undoctored footage reveals staff at a Planned Parenthood Colorado affiliate simply discussing legal reimbursements for safe donations, and reveals that the undercover actors admitted they were the "middlemen" who stood to potentially make a profit from selling tissue -- not Planned Parenthood itself.

"In a new CNN/ORC Poll, thousands of Americans were asked whether it was more important to pass a budget agreement that would avoid a government shutdown, or eliminate all federal funding for Planned Parenthood. Seventy-one percent of Americans said that passing a budget agreement and avoiding a government shutdown was the most important priority. Only 22% of those polled suggested that eliminating federal funding for Planned Parenthood should be the top priority."
