Conaway: Outraged and Extremely Disappointed with Supreme Court Decision

Washington  –  The Supreme Court upheld tax subsidies for all who purchase health care insurance on state or federal exchanges. Conservative lawmakers, hoping the Court would rule that the subsidies were unconstitutional, and deliver what many agreed would have been a fatal blow to President Barack Obama's signature legislative achievement were not pleased. Among them was Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11). He released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision today to uphold Obamacare:

“I’m outraged and extremely disappointed that the Supreme Court sided with the Obama Administration and ruled in favor of Obamacare. The President, along with the Democrats in both the House and Senate, forced this deeply flawed legislation through Congress, and now Americans are paying the price for this ill-conceived law. Today’s decision by the Supreme Court was yet another blow to the American people and the fight for the freedom to make our own healthcare choices.

“However, this is not the end of the fight. We will continue to pursue all legislative channels available to repeal Obamacare. I believe we need a free market healthcare policy that will actually lower health insurance costs and provide better healthcare for all Americans. Regardless of the Supreme Court’s ruling, Obamacare remains bad policy. It is now more important than ever that Republicans retain control of Congress and that a Republican is elected president in 2016, instead of a president who will simply follow in President Obama’s footsteps and block any attempt to repeal Obamacare. I will continue to vote to repeal Obamacare until Texans are no longer subject to this defective healthcare law.”

We already tried that Mr. Conaway. Premiums were unaffordable and those with pre-existing conditions were denied coverage.
