A car crash at FM 2288 and Appaloosa Circle this morning sent both drivers to the hospital with injuries, one of which may have broken some bones.
Ed Hunger, a traffic investigator, said that a silver Ford Ranger failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign on Appaloosa Circle and pulled out in front of a black Mustang, which was traveling northbound on 2288. The Mustang T-boned the Ranger, causing severe damage to both vehicles.
Hunger said both drivers went to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The Mustang driver didn't appear to have sustained too bad of injuries, Hunger said, but the driver of the Ranger may have broken her arms and sustained a head injury.
The driver of the Ranger will be cited for failure to yield right of way.

This news report of the accident at 2288 and Appaloosa is just another prime example of how drivers here are always in too big of a hurry. I see people all the time when approaching a stop sign, just yielding or if an intersection with a light, if it turns yellow, they don't stop, they speed up! Alot of times, the light has turned red by the time they go through the intersection!!! I always count to 5 slowly before I pull out after stopping or the light turns green!! It's crazy out here!!!

PermalinkI had never noticed whether or not people come to complete stops at stop signs or speed up at yellow lights because of all of the things in my personal life that keep me distracted from those crucial aspects of the local landscape. But you're right. It's like there *is* no law anymore. Thank you for bringing this up.

PermalinkPeople that just pull out in front of other people. It is especially bad on Knickerbocker near the lake. People are driving at least 55mph, and some dummy just rolls right out in front of everybody and then proceeds to accelerate like they are still on the ranch. I will see it at least once/day, and sometimes 5+ times in just the drive between the airport and the loop. I've seen them do it to cops too. Do they get pulled over for failing to yield? Nope. We have a lot of people around here that are not used to traffic. They live in Wall, Mertzon, Miles, Rowena, etc. where they can just blow a stop sign or pull out in front of everybody else. Then they come to the 'big city' and get into accidents because they try to drive like they are still in their tiny town. What needs to happen is that the traffic cops need to stop being so lazy and actually pull people over that are no yielding the right of way or going 20mph below the speed limit. Unsafe driving can go both ways.
