*UPDATED* Manhunt Ensues After Suspect Flees Community Hospital

A brief manhunt made for a few moments of excitement on Friday night when 26-year-old Leroy Anthony Enriquez escaped from Community Medical Center and hid out nearby.

Police had taken Enriquez into custody prior to his flight, and the perp had attacked an officer, resulting in a laceration on the head. The suspect was then taken to Community for an MRI, and once the handcuffs were removed, bolted from the room and left the hospital to hide out nearby.

According to a Nixle Alert, there was police activity at Knickerbocker and Loop 306 at 8:26 p.m. A drive-by of the area showed that police had set up a sizeable perimeter from approximately Bentwood to Community Hospital.

Enriquez was apprehended shortly after his escape attempt.

Friday night did not mark Enriquez's first failed attempt at fleeing the SAPD. According to Tom Green County Jail records, Enriquez was booked on two warrants from June 2013, one of which was for resisting arrest/search/transport and the other for unauthorized use of a vehicle. Friday evening he added an additional four charges to his criminal record, which included taking a weapon from an officer, resisting arrest/search/transport, evading arrest/detention and escape while arrested/confined, the last of which is a felony charge.
