Texas School Employees Face Fallout Over Social Media Comments on Charlie Kirk’s Death

HOUSTON, TX — Several Houston-area school districts are taking action after employees and former employees posted controversial remarks on social media about the death of political activist Charlie Kirk.

Klein Independent School District confirmed Friday that an employee was terminated for making what the district called “senseless and completely unacceptable remarks.” Officials did not release the individual’s identity or the exact comments, but said the conduct “will never be tolerated.”

"We want to assure our community that we take matters of this nature with the utmost seriousness," a statement read. "We hold all Klein ISD employees to the highest standard of professionalism and respect, and any actions falling short of those standards will be addressed swiftly and decisively."

Pasadena ISD said it was made aware of “inappropriate and insensitive comments” made by an employee regarding Kirk’s death.

“This situation is being addressed administratively, and we want to assure our community that comments of this nature are not taken seriously. These remarks are not aligned with the values, standards, or expectations of our district. We regret that these comments were made. Pasadena ISD is committed to maintaining a respectful and compassionate environment for all. We extend our condolences to Mr. Kirk’s family, friends, and all those mourning his passing,” Superintendent Toni Lopez stated.

In Goose Creek CISD, State Rep. Briscoe Cain called for the immediate firing of two Lee High School teachers, Jennifer Courtemanche and Alice Henrichsen, accusing them of celebrating or mocking Kirk’s assassination. Cain’s posts, which included screenshots of the teachers’ Facebook activity, spread widely online. Courtemanche suggested Kirk may have “baited just one too many people” and implied reactions would have been different if the victim were a minority. Henrichsen shared posts that critics said mocked Kirk and referenced political and religious divides.

Goose Creek CISD has not confirmed names or employment status but said it is investigating and reaffirmed that it “firmly rejects all forms of hate and violence.”

Dickinson ISD also addressed the controversy, saying a former substitute teacher posted a “hateful and offensive” comment. The district clarified that the individual has not worked there since 2022.
