107 Shelter Pets Leave San Angelo, Making Room for Flood-Displaced Animals

SAN ANGELO, TX — More than 100 shelter animals departed San Angelo today bound for foster and adoption placements elsewhere, freeing up space for pets displaced by the recent July 4 flooding.

Concho Valley PAWS announced that 107 dogs and cats were flown out of the city in a coordinated effort with Wings of Rescue and Best Friends Animal Society. Volunteers were seen loading airline crates onto transport vehicles and aircraft as part of the operation.

The organization said the transfer was necessary to reduce crowding at local shelters and to prevent euthanasia for lack of space. In advance of the transports, Concho Valley PAWS made multiple public appeals for donations of airline crates and funds to help safely move the animals.

“These pets are no longer on stray hold and are available for adoption,” the group said in a social media post, noting that the space created will help incoming animals affected by flood evacuations.

None of the animals transported were owned pets, Concho Valley PAWS said.

The nonprofit operates at 3134 N. U.S. 67 in San Angelo and can be reached at (325) 656-7387 for donations or inquiries.
