Alleged Shooter Booked into Tom Green County Jail on Murder Charge

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — A 17-year-old has been booked into the Tom Green County Jail on a murder charge following the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old early Saturday morning in San Angelo.

According to the San Angelo Police Department, officers responded around 4:55 a.m. on May 24 to the 4400 block of Bermuda Drive and found a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Shannon Medical Center but later died from his injuries.

The suspect, identified as Derek Randall Carson, 17, was located shortly after the shooting and taken into custody. Jail records confirm Carson was officially booked on a murder charge later that day.

Police said the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

In a press conference, officials credited the coordinated efforts of the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Special Operations Section, Crime Scene Unit, and Drone Team for the swift apprehension. Authorities also thanked community members who provided information during the investigation.

No additional details have been released at this time as the case remains under active investigation.
