Trump Signs Executive Orders to Expand Energy Infrastructure and Consumer Choice

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump signed several executive orders on his first day back in office aimed at accelerating energy infrastructure projects, reversing previous administration policies, and promoting consumer choice.

The move was met with praise from the American Gas Association (AGA).

“We applaud President Trump’s decisive action to maximize the benefits from our nation’s abundant and essential energy and to protect consumer choice for each and every American,” AGA President and CEO Karen Harbert stated. "America needs simple, commonsense reforms to protect our citizens’ access to affordable, efficient, low-emissions and reliable energy and make America competitive and secure."

Harbert also stated the importance of natural gas to the U.S. economy and energy independence, citing its role as a cornerstone resource. The United States holds more than 3,353 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas reserves, enough to supply over 100 years of demand.

According to the AGA, households using natural gas for heating, cooking, and laundry save an average of $1,132 annually compared to electric homes, totaling $125 billion in savings over the past decade. Additionally, residential natural gas use results in 18% lower greenhouse gas emissions than electric-powered homes for the same applications.

Last week, the AGA shared an open letter with the president and Congress, outlining five steps to unleash the country’s energy potential, create jobs, and secure a robust energy future.
