SAN ANGELO, TX - A San Angelo man is behind bars after threatening to stab a man with a switchblade knife after a verbal argument escalated into a fistfight.
Jonathan Stewart is 44 and was arrested by the Tom Green County Sheriff's office on December 18th and released on the 19th. Stuart was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
According to court documents, upon arrival, officers could hear people yelling and loud banging coming from the right side of the house. They entered the house due to exigent circumstances. A male subject exited and was identified as Joshua Felix. The second subject exited the residence and was identified as Jonathan Stewart. The third subject then came out of the residence and was identified as Valerie Gauwain.
Rodriguez told officers that he indeed did have a knife and that he had it out when the yelling and verbal fighting began and was holding it to his right. Stewart claimed that he had pulled the knife in an attempt to de-escalate the situation and protect himself. Deputy Jonathan Rivera asked him if they were pushing or exchanging punches yet before he pulled the knife. Stewart stated that he put the knife in his pocket when they began to exchange punches and fight. Gauwain stated that she moved the knife from the floor and forgot where she placed it.
The knife was located under the coffee table in the living room a short time later. Felix stated that Stewart entered the house and began fighting, producing a knife.
Felix stated that Stewart was making overhead stabbing motions towards him with a knife and he defended himself. Felix said Stewart left the scene. Stewart was arrested for Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which is a second-degree felony.
