Dove Creek Dude Avoids Prison for Beating Pregnant Woman

SAN ANGELO — A local man has taken a plea deal avoiding jail time for assaulting a pregnant woman.

Joshua Dunn, 26, pleaded guilty to Assault of a Pregnant Woman. In exchange for the guilty plea, Dunn was sentenced to eight years deferred adjudication probation.

According to court documents, on July 15, 2023, Tom Green County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 11000 block of Spring Creek Lane in Dove Creek regarding an assault as multiple phone calls were made from the address to the emergency dispatch center.

One deputy and one Texas Parks and Wildlife agent were sent but were unable to find anyone on the property. The dispatch center told the responding law enforcement that the victim was texting a friend and telling her friend where she was and what was going on.

Law enforcement then knocked very loudly on the door until one of the residents was seen climbing down a ladder from the loft. Due to the serious nature of the situation, the defendant, identified as Dunn, was put in handcuffs. The deputy was able to smell alcohol coming from Dunn.

The victim was spoken to by law enforcement, and she said that Dunn had hit her in the head, legs, and arms several times and may have given her a concussion. She then said Dunn had been beating on her for the last three hours prior to the deputy and wildlife agent showing up at the residence. The victim was about six and a half months pregnant, which Dunn knew when he was beating her.

The victim had visible marks, swelling, and redness from the lengthy assault.

Then, law enforcement found out that the victim’s attempts to call 911 were interrupted by Dunn. When he found the victim calling for help, he punched her in the face. A call history review showed that the victim called 911 at 7:56 p.m. and she missed a call back from the San Angelo Police Dispatch at the same time.

Dunn was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on July 15, 2023. He was indicted in September 2023 and now had been sentenced to eight years deferred adjudication and will not be allowed to contact the victim until he completes a Battering Intervention and Prevention Program.

Well, first certain people in the San Angelo justice system will need to get off their lazy ass and do something besides make plea deals.
