Police Officer Shot Near High School

 

AUSTIN, TX — An Ausin ISD Police Officer was shot Tuesday morning near a high school in Austin. The shooting occurred at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning near North East Early College High School.

Austin ISD put the high school into lockdown at 11:16 a.m. after the incident. Austin ISD posted an explanation on the school district’s Twitter.

“North East ECHS is in lockdown due to shots heard in the area,” the school district said. “Police are responding. Please do not come to campus. We will update you as soon as we know more.”

At 11:45 a.m., Austin ISD posted an update.

“North East ECHS is still in Lockdown. The campus is safe. Confirmation that an Austin ISD Police Officer sustained injuries during an altercation in the parking lot.”

It is unknown what caused the altercation to happen in the first place, but EMS transported the officer to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas confirmed that the officer was shot in the line of duty.

No arrests have been made at this time.
