Heat Advisory Extended as Temps Continue to Soar

SAN ANGELO – The Heat Advisory issued by the National Weather Service Monday was extended through at least Wednesday and will more than likely be upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning as temperatures approach 110 degrees across West Texas. 

According to the NWS office in San Angelo, Heat Index Values will reach between 107 and 110 degrees each afternoon.  

Weather conditions this intense can cause heat exhaustion and heat stroke.  Know the symptoms of heat related illnesses and how to treat them.  Experts recommend residents stay indoors if at all possible during the heat of the day.  Those who must venture outdoors should schedule strenuous activities to the early morning and late afternoon hours if possible.  Everyone working outdoors for extended periods should take precautions; stay hydrated, wear clothing that protects from the sun including hats, gloves and sunscreen, take frequent breaks in the shade and check on vulnerable friends and neighbors. 

Never, ever leave a pet or a child locked in a vehicle in West Texas.  That is criminal and can be deadly.  

Make sure all outdoor pets, and children for that matter, have plenty of fresh water, shade and food.  Better yet, bring them inside with you.  

There is no rain in the forecast and afternoon high temperatures will reach over 100 degrees for the next seven days.
