Combative Man Tased in Front of Justice Center

Incoherent shouting rang out downtown in front of the Tom Green County Justice Center on Friday, when a man, whom eyewitnesses say was loitering, became combative after law enforcement officers asked him to leave.

According to an eyewitness, the man had been loitering in front of the front  door for some time, and appeared "crazy". When a sheriff's deputy and another officer approached the man and asked him to leave, the man became combative.

"He said, 'I want to pray, I want to pray,' and he wouldn't leave," the witness reported. "They asked him to leave and then they set him down and he started going crazy."

The witness said the officers then attempted to get the man to sit down and handcuff him, at which point the man flipped out.

"They tried to put cuffs on him and he was fighting them, so the city cop tased him, got him down on the ground and they still couldn't handle him," he said. "He didn't want to leave. He was acting crazy. I mean, you could tell. He was wired out."

At one point, the witness said, the officers managed to get him back toward the entrance of the building, at which point the man straddled the top of a bench seated near the entrance.

"They couldn't get him off of there and then they tased him and got him on the ground," he said.

The tazing, our witness said, "looked like it f****** hurt, that's what it looked like." However, the man remained non-compliant.

"Those cops were trying not to hurt him, but he was going to hurt himself if they didn't tase him and get him on the ground."

After the incident, the man was promptly escorted into the county jail. His identity has not yet been released.

An official statement from law enforcement has not yet been provided.

The police should be congratulated for using a Taser instead of popping off with a gun as a reflex. Good for them, using restraint. People will argue that the man wasn't doing anything, but if I were in the vicinity, I'd want someone to find a way to calm down someone who could be cabable of anything. Don't act nutty, you won't get Tased.
I don't know if anyone has read or viewed the Tom Green County's budget but, it's hilarious that there are two kinds of police officers to them. There are interdiction deputies and other. Last time I checked, they were the same uniform. Even funnier the courthouse and jail deputies are looked down on because they don't go through as much. What's fair is fair, I hope they eyes of the commissioners and the county judge realize who protects them. ..... They are deputies ....
You can just look at him and see there are bats in the belfry. They will take him to Big Springs where the mental hospital will keep him for 3 days and then send him out the front gate telling him to take 3 of the little white pills they put in his front pocket daily. He needs to be committed to an asylum somewhere or he's going to really cause some family a life long amount of grief when he really hurts someone next time.
Sounds like this guy really needed a jolt from the taser. Could have been a real problem if allowed to leave and roam our streets. Thank god he was arrested and is now in jail. Some liberal will probably shame our police and point fingers at them. Good job boys.
Obviously he was only trying to pray for a cool breeze to roll in from the heavens. It's 95 degrees out, that is too many layers of clothing to be wearing in August. Leave a couple of shirts and the jeans at home, bubba.
