Gov. Greg Abbott Issues Statement on Tragic Uvalde School Shooting

UVALDE- Gov. Greg Abbott has issued the following statement on the tragic school shooting in Uvalde.

Information from the Governor says:

Texans across the state are grieving for the victims of this senseless crime and for the community of Uvalde. Cecilia and I mourn this horrific loss and we urge all Texans to come together to show our unwavering support to all who are suffering.

We thank the courageous first responders who worked to finally secure Robb Elementary School. I have instructed the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers to work with local law enforcement to fully investigate this crime.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management is charged with providing local officials all resource necessary to respond to this tragedy as the State of Texas works to ensure the community has what it needs to heal.

Abbott also said that the shooter, Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old from Uvalde, abandoned his vehicle, entered into Robb Elementary with a handgun. Abbott also says Ramos may have had a rifle but cannot confirm that at this time.

Ramos shot and killed "horrifically, incomprehensibly, 14 students and killed a teacher" and Ramos himself is dead. It is believed that the responding officers killed Ramos.

Two responding officers were also struck by round but were not seriously injured.

Abbott also said that they are in the process of obtaining detailed information about Salvador Ramos, his motive, the types of firearms he used, the legal authority too possess said weapons, conduct a crime scene investigation and reconstruction, and identify and interview all witnesses and provide victim services as needed.

Earlier today, it was reported that 14 children, 1 teacher, and the shooter were killed in the shooting.

Great.  Now do something meaningful to stop this, you political whore.  This "Prayers and fond wishes" crap accomplishes nothing.  Stop sucking up to the NRA and the gun-producing bastards that support them.

By the way, I own guns.  Having said that, the easy access to guns makes it far too easy for nutjobs to wreak mayhem on the innocent.  We need control or we will see much more of what seems to be creating a "New Normal".  That terrifies me.

Ted Cruz's statement, "It's a slippery slope" regarding gun safety makes me despise that evil bastard even more than I have before.

Every time I see that another mass shooting, especially a school massacre, my heart sinks and I say to myself, not again. Inevitably, I, like you, say that this must end, yet the question remains, how? Exactly what measures do we as a society impose that will put an end to this kind of slaughter? Expat, I urge you to tell us what you, should you be impowered to do so, would do to put an end to this? No one can know the hidden demons within every mind, and you know as well as I that the elimination of civilian owned firearms will not ever happen in the US. Any attempt to disarm the population will result in the death of many peace officers dispatched to confiscate them. It is indeed a 'Catch 22' situation with no simple solution, but if you happen to have the answer, please share it with us.

Cajun... I can count on you to speak intelligently here.  Thank you for that.

There is no single answer to this question.  It is easy to blame this plague on mental illness, but we have always had those poor folks amongst us.  It is easy to blame parenting, but we have always had poor parents.  It is easy to blame bullying, but we have always had bullies.  It is easy to blame the young, like this latest demon, but horrors such as this are also committed by older folks... like the vermin that killed over fifty people in Las Vegas with his now-famous "bump stock" equipped weapon.  There is one common factor: guns.

As I have said many times I support responsible gun ownership and own guns myself.  I do have a problem with civilian ownership of military-style weapons.  They are not designed for hunting or target shooting; even in semiautomatic they are designed to kill bunches of people in little time (The hunters I know tend to favor bolt action).

Were I King I would ban the manufacture and sale of any such weapon except those strictly intended for use by the military.  I would instigate a buyback program for those already out there in an attempt to reduce those numbers.  I would NOT seek to confiscate the things.  I consider that a step too far for obvious reasons.

I would require background checks for all firearm purchases... no exceptions.  This would require tightening the records of those treated for mental disorders and those with felony convictions, history of spousal abuse, history of threatening behavior, and the like.  By the way, laws that allow a kid to buy two AR-platform weapons on his eighteenth birthday are idiotic.

I would stiffen the penalties for any criminal offense involving a firearm or committed by someone simply carrying one.

I also question the efficacy of civilian purchases of body armor.  The fallacy of "The good guy with a gun" falls apart when the bad guy, like the Buffalo and the Uvalde shooters, is wearing protective clothing.

That's a start, I guess.  Peace.

Well it’s good you are not king expat. What you want is basically to gut the 2a, and ban people from access to protective gear. Not a good idea IMO. Pretty much anything can be put under the term “military style weapon”. I have revolvers and bolt actions that were actual military issue. What about those? People have committed mass shootings with lever actions too. What about those?

What are the odds of this being another false flag like Sandy Hook? I mean there sure is a bunch of stuff going on that they would like to distract us from. Stolen election, Sussmann, Clinton, WHO in Davos, WEF, child trafficking, failing economy, record inflation, etc.  What a perfect opportunity for them to try and go after guns again.
