DPS Releases Report, Names of Victims in Fatal Crash Near Miles

The Texas DPS released their preliminary report on the crash on US 67, 6.7 miles north of Miles, at 2:54 a.m.

Evan Wilson, 22, of San Angelo was driving his 2005 Dodge Ram northbound in a southbound lane on US 67, according to the TXDPS investigation report.  Meanwhile, a mother and child, driver Brooke Abney, 35, of San Angelo and passenger two-year-old James Abney, were traveling southbound in a 2003 Honda Civic.

The Dodge Ram and the Civic collided on the front left sides of each vehicle. DPS said the speed limit along that stretch of road is 75 mph.

After the collision, the Dodge traveled into the center median and overturned several times. The Civic traveled across the outside lane and onto an improved shoulder.

Wilson sustained major injuries and was transported to Shannon Medical Center. He is listed in stable condition. Brooke Abney was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Kay Longest. The child was airlifted to Shannon via Airmed 1. The child is in critical condition.

The DPS did not disclose what caused Wilson to be driving in the wrong direction of traffic. The crash remains under investigation, TXDPS said.

These tragedies are ... horrible. I can't even think of anything to say because my heart is too busy feeling for the families of this accident. No comment on cell phones or DWIs or anything is going to take away the hurt involved here. Prayers going out...
