A blue four-door Toyota Corolla has crashed on Highway 87 South near wall, stopping traffic as first responders work the scene. Two to three occupants are known to have been in the vehicle when the crash occurred and all have been transported from the scene to the hospital by two ambulances.
TXDPS Troopers and the Wall Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, and the state of the occupants of the vehicle has not been communicated at this point.
The call for the crash came in just after 2:00 p.m. and construction work is being done on the highway near the crash site. Traffic has been limited to one lane.
Update 2:52 p.m.
The road has been cleared but traffic is still moving slowly due to construction.
Update 3:03 p.m.
Trooper Hoi explained that the crash occurred when an empty truck from the construction site was pulling across the road and the car was unable to reduce speed quickly enough. As a result, the car collided with the semi-trailer of the truck and spun over to the left side of the road.
Two occupants of the vehicle were transported to the ambulance on gurneys and taken to the hospital. The driver was able to walk to the ambulance, and an infant on board sustained no known injuries.
The occupants of the vehicle were traveling from the Brady area and heading to a doctor's appointment at Shannon.
The speed limit on that stretch of highway is 65 due to the construction zone, however Trooper Hoi believes the driver was driving at least 70 m.p.h. when the crash occurred. No citations have been issued as of yet, however the investigation is still ongoing.
