SAN ANGELO, TX -- With the summer season in full swing, the Center for Disease Control is asking Americans to be safe as they cool off in swimming pools.
Pools, hot tubs, and water playgrounds with proper chlorine or bromine levels and pH are less likely to spread germs.
One of the biggest threats for swimmers is having sick people swim in the pool.
Swimmers with diarrhea are asked to avoid the water. Individuals diagnosed with Crypto should not go back in the water until 2 weeks after diarrhea has completely stopped.
In order to better illustrate the point, the CDC released two GIFs on Twitter.
Anyone with an open cut or wound -- particularly from surgery or piercing -- should also stay away from the water.
Swimmers are also advised to shower before diving into the pool. Rinsing off in the shower for just 1 minute removes most of the dirt that uses up chlorine or bromine needed to kill or inactivate germs.
Once in the water, swimmers should avoid peeing or pooping in the water. Parents should take their kids on bathroom breaks and check diapers every hour.
With that first point in mind, swimmers should also avoid swallowing water.
As you stay safe this summer remember to not "leave your mark at the pool this summer."
