WATCH: Golly Face Masks Are Important

SAN ANGELO, TX – The local health authority in San Angelo says masks are more important now than ever before.

Dr. James Vredis along with the City of San Angelo released a video Friday afternoon.

Watch the video:

Texas Gov. Abbott Friday issued an order shutting down bars and reducing restaurants to 50 percent capacity because of the all time high spike in COVID-19 cases.

Locally, COSA and Tom Green County have shut down all parks through July 13 nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. in an attempt to prevent the spread of the disease.

I agree with wearing a mask while out in public, especially in the stores and where there are crowds of people! I've read enough information about how wearing a mask is important to help prevent the spread of the virus! The thing I have a problem with is people driving alone in their car while wearing a mask. There is no reason to wear a mask when you are totally alone driving around in your car ... unless you are expecting to pick someone up or if you are crazy enough that you honestly believe in your mind that your vehicle has caught the virus...LOL! Bottom line is ... wearing the mask when you are with other people in a closed environment is not only to protect you... but protects others! Also, if you can find a store that sells the pocket size bottles of hand sanitizer.... buy a couple... carry it along with you just in case your end up somewhere that doesn't have soap and water!

and yet vretis isn't wearing a mask in that video. guess the camera crew must be immune to the virus, doc?

masks are also so important that vretis and the city forgot to say anything about them when the protests were happening and when a couple hundred people were laying elbow to elbow at city hall.

what a joke.

we went nearly 3 months without a mask order and the numbers never skyrocketed.

then the protests happened and like clockwork the numbers went up.

and vretis and the city said nothing about it until now. instead they're going to help kill off a few more businesses here in town.

if he had any integrity he'd resign his position for not saying anything when the protests started.

why don't we schedule a new protest and see what they have to say about things now?

In case y’all haven’t figured it out yet if only 50% of people are wearing the mask and the other 50% don’t give a crap about anybody but there narcissistic self this thing is not going to get any better. So stop your whining, put on your mask and care about other people other than yourself. The faster we put it on, the faster we can end this thing. Don’t worry nobody cares if your makeup smears. Mandatory mask should have started along time ago in all buildings but you can thank Fuddy Duddy Fouchi for that one.

With due respect sir, the only mask likely to be effective against the virus is a properly fitted N95 respirator. Where do you find "proof" that cloth masks are effective? Furthermore, San Angelo currently has 15 hospitalizations and 2 deaths since tracking began in March. Is that cause for panic? And we should really stop using the cliche about "saving lives" by wearing a mask and by staying home. This virus is less "deadly" than you're implying. The CDC says that the Corona death rate is around .2%. Not much more than the flu at around .1%. Inform the elderly about the risks and let healthy citizens go about their daily lives. And make their own decisions about what to do with their faces.
