Two Deputies Stabbed by Suspected Shoplifter at Walmart

LUBBOCK, TX –  Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office deputies have released additional details regarding an incident from Saturday night where two Sheriff’s deputies were stabbed at a Walmart Super Center.

According to a release from LCSO, a Sheriff’s deputy was working security at the Walmart Super Center off of Quaker Avenue and South Loop 289 in full uniform when he approached a suspected shoplifter.

During the altercation, a deputy made multiple verbal commands to the suspect, later identified as Miko Devon Butler, to stop, however the commands were ineffective.

 As a second deputy arrived to assist in the apprehension of Butler, LCSO officials say Butler pulled out a knife and stabbed both deputies before fleeing the scene. 

Butler was able to flee the scene and was last seen on foot as he ran northbound crossing multiple lanes of traffic on the loop.

A third deputy was dispatched to the scene where he was able to provide medical aid to both of the injured deputies, along with the help of a few good Samaritans.  

Reports indicate the two deputies were transported to an area hospital by EMS services.

Following his apprehension around 10:30 p.m, Butler was treated at a local hospital after suffering an injury from a K-9 bite. 

One of the injured deputies was released from the hospital later Saturday night, however the other deputy currently remains in the hospital as of Sunday.
