What Happened When the Tiger King Came to San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX – The newest big hit show on Netflix is called "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness" and Joe Exotic brought his show to Sunset Mall in San Angelo in 2007.

Back in January 2007 the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park lead by Joe "Exotic" Schreibvogel came to the Sunset Mall.

They were there to perform their magic act called the “Mystical Magic of the Endangered." During the show spectators were allowed to interact and pet tiger cub.

According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals during the show A 10-month-old lion cub was quarantined after scratching a mall patron.

Here's a trailer of the docuseries. [[{"fid":"69183","view_mode":"wysiwyg","fields":{"format":"wysiwyg"},"type":"media","field_deltas":{"1":{"format":"wysiwyg"}},"attributes":{"class":"media-element file-wysiwyg","data-delta":"1"}}]]

Another star from the documentary Carole Baskin owner of the Big Cat Rescue reported that the cub was actually taken into custody by the San Angelo Animal Control.

City spokeswoman at the time Maryann Vasquez told the Big Cat Rescue that SAPD were called to the Mall.

“It’s just a shame,” said Joe Exotic. “Out of the 20,000 people that enjoyed the animals, there was one person that ruined it for everyone.”

The tiger cub was placed on a 30-day quarantine before being returned to the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park.

She was not scratched, she was bitten on the arm and she had to go to the hospital for a rabies shot as precaution. I know her personally and yes she says that Joe Exotic threw a big fit at the time it happened and blamed it on her saying she did something to the cub which of course she did not.

The man is mentally ill as far as I'm concerned and he's where he belongs, but the Netflix limited series is a interesting story and well worth watching!
