Eyewitness Accounts Emerge of Fiery Scene Immediately After Fatal Head-on Crash on San Angelo’s Houston Harte Expressway

SAN ANGELO, TX — “My husband and I are visiting and last night we were the ones who called 9-1-1 about the head-on collision,” a witness to the noise of the crash said to us in an exclusive interview. The couple was staying at the Microtel Inn and Suites by Wyndham on the Houston Harte right in front of where the head-on crash happened in front of their room. She showed her smartphone’s call log where she made the 9-1-1 call. It read 2:52 a.m.

“It was so loud I jumped out of bed in our hotel room and looked out the window,” the wife said. She asked to remain anonymous.

Watch: The immediate aftermath as witnesses called 9-1-1:

“Within 5 minutes, police arrived and within 10 minutes firefighters arrived. But the crash was so bad there was literally nothing anyone could have done to save them,” she said.

Police said this morning that only a driver occupied each vehicle. A 21-year-old male drove the black Chevrolet HHR. The HHR was the subject of a reckless driving 9-1-1 call that happened moments prior. The report was that the HHR was traveling east in the westbound lanes of the Houston Harte Expressway.

The driver of the HHR collided head-on with a white Ford Escape driven by a 17-year-old girl. After the collision, police said the HHR caught fire. A second witness we talked to at the scene said the female driver was driving home from work, but we have not confirmed that.

Neither driver survived. Justice of the Peace Fred Buck pronounced both dead at the scene.

I'm sorry but why are they even allowed to post this that's someone's child being burned from this accident who didn't make it, no family member of either victim wants to see this throughout their social media feed from people sharing I'm sorry prayers to the families affected

Seeing this might just save someones life. Defensive driving is a must here, people get in their vehicle and drive like it is a rocket full speed ahead and no slowing down. It is a pity but morons behind the wheel will be morons and take out innocent lives.

Why is this video up? Hopefully, it illustrates how stupid & careless people are on our roads. BTW, the jerk that drove the wrong way & killed someone, was not a victim! Someone saw this person get in their car & drive away drunk. Someone did call the police & reported this moron driving the wrong way, but it was too late for the police to act. The police couldn’t stop him before he ended up taking his own life & this young lady’s life. Have you ever noticed how many morons are texting & driving as they drive 65 mph on the Houston Harte? Hundreds!! We have become complacent in that we don’t want to interfere with a moron’s rights to drive distracted or drunk. This is what we end up with by ignoring this. We all need to remember what & who took this innocent girl’s life from her & her family. Grow up & take action so this doesn’t happen again instead of whining about how bad it looks!
