SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man was arrested for robbery after took another man's keys at gunpoint on Sunday. The thing is, the gun was actually a BB gun, police found out.
San Angelo police responded to call for a robbery that had occurred Saturday night. Upon arrival, they met with the victim to try to piece together what exactly happened.
The victim told police that he had been walking from a friend's house on the 100 block of E. 11th St. when Le'andre "Lee Lee" Hayes, 22, approached him. The victim said that he knew the guy personally. According to the affidavit, the victim claimed Hayes pulled out to what he described as a semi-automatic pistol and forced the victim to hand him the keys to his gray 2008 Nissan Versa. The victim told police he surrendered the keys, put his hands in the air, and then walked away.
The officers then talked to the friend that the victim who was visiting that night. The friend told police that he saw Hayes walking towards the victim. He could see that Hayes had the butt of a pistol in his pocket. He also told police that he saw the victim hand Hayes his keys, put his hands in the air, and then walk away.
Police indicated they had enough evidence to arrest Hayes. They went to the 200 block of E. 11th St. and detained Hayes. While at the house, they asked a subject inside the house if there were any guns there. The woman showed the officers a BB gun that resembled a semi-automatic pistol.
Regardless, police say Hayes intentionally and knowingly placed the victim into a situation of fear of imminent and serious bodily injury.
Hayes is in jail charged with robbery and his bond is set at $30,000.
