UPDATE: Deputy Shoots Man After Wild Series of Events

MIDLAND, TX -- A suspect was shot and killed after trying to attack a police officer with a broken bottle on Tuesday.

The Midland County Sheriff's Office received a call that a man had hit a passenger in a vehicle with a hammer, and that the man had gotten out of the vehicle and was walking down I-20 Business.

33-year-old Jerald Wilson had also been struck by a mirror of a car that was passing by. Other calls received by the Sheriff's Office stated that Wilson was heading towards the train tracks.

When deputies arrived on the scene Wilson was walking in the middle of the train tracks with blood coming down his wrists. Deputies tried to get Wilson off the tracks, but he would not answer them. Wilson was carrying a broken beer bottle, and there was a train approaching. 

Deputies tased the man twice, but it did not effect him. Then Wilson tried to stab the deputy with the beer bottle.

The deputy then fired two shots, and the man dropped to the tracks.

Deputies moved the body off of the tracks before the train arrived.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting, and the deputy has been placed on administrative leave.
