Realtors Endorse Judge & Write-in Candidate While Senator Cruz Stumps in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Association of REALTORS on Tuesday endorsed local candidates Susan Werner and Gilbert Gallegos in their respective campaigns for Justice of the Peace and Pct. 4 County Commissioner in Tom Green County.    The vaunted endorsement comes with something all political candidates want and need; financial support.

Most notably, the Association endorsed and financially supported a write-in candidate for a local race for the first time in its history.  Political newcomer Gilbert Gallegos was interviewed by the SAAR committee along with incumbent Pct. 4 Commissioner Bill Ford. The committee chose to endorse and financially support Gallegos after an extensive interview with both candidates.  

At a check presentation presentation Tuesday afternoon at the SAAR office on Pecos St. behind the Walmart Neighborhood Market, Texas Real Estate Political Action Committee trustee from San Angelo Max Puello told attendees that they were proud to support Werner because of her track record on the bench.  Puello said they interviewed Werner and her opponent Sally Ayana and chose to endorse Werner. The Association also endorsed Gallegos after interviewing him and Ford and they expected him to win the election.

The San Angelo Association of Realtors is active in the community by their involvement with the Chamber of Commerce, City Council, School Board, and other entities. The San Angelo Association of Realtors has over 300 members and raised over $50,000 last year for the statewide political action committee.

Early voting continues through Friday for the Nov. 6 general election.  As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, 16,004 Tom Green County voters had cast ballots. That’s almost 17 percent of the 67,007 registered voters in the county.

Interest in and passion about the race for U.S. Senator have driven voters to the polls in record numbers across the state according to the Secretary of State’s office.  Incumbent Republican Senator Ted Cruz is facing a tough challenge from Democrat Beto O’Rourke of El Paso. The former Congressman has raised tens of millions of dollars and has traveled to all 254 counties in Texas.  

Senator Cruz made campaign stop in San Angelo Tuesday evening.  A packed house listened to the Senator talk about immigration, health care, veterans and taxes at the Texas Leadership Academy.  Cruz has visited San Angelo twice during the campaign. O’Rourke has campaigned in San Angelo at least four times.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is also on the ballot.  The first term Republican is challenged by Democrat Lupe Valdez, the former sheriff of Dallas County.  Abbott leads by double digits and will be in San Angelo Wednesday at the Concho Pearl Ice House,1605 S. Chadbourne, from 2 pm. To 4 p.m.

Early voting hours through Friday this week are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the five early voting locations which include the Elections office in the Keyes Building at 113 W. Beauregard, Central High School’s Barnhardt Theatre 655 Caddo, PAYS school 1820 Knickerbocker Rd., Lincoln Middle School 255 Lake View Heroes Dr., and the Christoval Community Center 20022 Main St. in Christoval.
